Head of Government: Council of the Moon

The Council of the Moon consists of seven ruling families of nobility. The Siánelun family is the chief family of the council, and each lord or lady of the council are actually kings or queens, referred to as a rekai or remai. Children of the councilmember families are revered as princes and princesses, while their siblings of the councilmembers are lords and ladies, but considered lower nobility.

Branches of Government: Brotherhood of Paladins, Druidic Sisterhood, and the Collective of Clerical Advisors

They all have different departments within that oversee the military, public health, trade relations, and education.

Social Equality & Dynamics

  • Nobility

    The noble houses of Luna make up the seven families of the Council of the Moon. While there can be many families in line for the councilmember seats, it’s usually the eldest son of the councilmember family that will rise to the council-seat with their spouse. Also, to keep the noble families “as pure as moonlight”, it is customary for them to marry within the seven families, occasionally reaching into the more successful high middle class.

  • High Middle Class

    This class consists of several affluent professions, such as: government officials, head generals of the military, administrators of Luntera’s hospital, director of public health, appointed ambassadors to other countries, and directors of education and trade relations.

    Because of the idea of “purity in Luna” is so ingrained in moon elven society, this hierarchal class usually excludes humans, orcs, and half-breeds of human and orc descent. Most individuals of families in this class are either moon elf, faeriekind, or sun elf.

  • Middle Class

    This class is one step down from the higher professionals of the previous class but a step above the common rabble of the next. Professions in this class includes: merchants and store owners, teachers, assistant healers and nurses, ship captains, mid to low level members of the governmental bodies of Luntera’s government, black smiths, housebuilders, tailors and personal modistes, innkeepers, landlords, carpenters, etc.

    Due to this class being closer to the bottom of Luntera’s hierarchal set-up, it’s more flexible to include the “less fortunate” races of humans, orcs, and half-breeds. However, if a human or orc were to be any of these professions, they might be trusted less than their elven competitors. All Race demographics are present here, with a small percentage of humans and orcs.

  • Lower Middle Class

    Typically filled with the workers of those in the class above, these peoples might have a more rustic feel to their social interactions due to receiving less education. Professions in this class include: farmers and animal herders, aids to the middle class professionals, laborers, lumberjacks, brickmakers, servants, etc.

    A larger percentage of humans, orcs, and half-breeds are seen here, and the common minded elves are more accepting of the human/orc communities around them.

  • Poverty Houses

    Usually filled with severely maimed solciers, down-on-their-luck elves, humans, orcs, and half-breeds, the Council of the Moon have done their best to provide these poverty houses for the less fortunate, but occasionally, unbeknownst to the Council, some of the house managers mistreat the poverty house occupants, cause overpopulation, become irresponsible of the house expenses, etc.

Luntera Technology & Magic

General Technology

Although overall military and social norms are similar to the late medieval age of Earth, due to the widespread practice of magic throughout Luntera, the elven nation’s level of life is high.

Magic

Homekeeping witches (usually low-level clerics, sorceresses, or wizards/witches) use magic to switfly complete household chores like cooking, cleaning, and mending.

Hospital healers (clerics, druids, and paladins) use a type of magical sense to ascertain the problem a patient is complaining about, and magic aids the hospital’s apothecaries to make more potent potions to help the patients recover from their ailments.

The military (Druidic Sisterhood and the Brotherhood of Paladins) use magic in combat, espionage and scouting, and in defensive borders.

The Capital’s Notable Locations

  • The Temple of Luna

    From weekly religious services, to initiation ceremonies for the governmental societies, to governmental meetings with the Council of the Moon, this temple is a notable landmark to all those who laud Luna’s name and claim her as their celestial queen.

  • The Courtyard of Luna

    Circular in shape with gleaming white stones that shine with the moon’s cycle, the courtyard sits at the threshold of the temple and contains a beautiful statue of Luna’s brand, an upturned crescent moon, in the central yard. Special events and holiday celebrations are held here.

  • The Holy Mother's Clinic

    A great hospital that takes on patients that the remote clinics of Luntera cannot heal, the cleric mothers and sisters treat them with care and compassion as Luna would. The great clinic also prides itself for having the best healers in charge of the largest apothecary center in all of Ocúrey.

  • Moonlight Docks

    These docks ship and receive merchandise from abroad and has a great selection of cafés, artisan shoppes, and market stalls.

  • Merfolk Embassy

    Just north of the Moonlight Docks, it is a safe place for the moon elves to meet their fishy allies for trade negotiations and more.

  • Museum of Art and History

    Filled with tapestries, paintings, and sculptures of the events of Luntera, it is a great place to visit for educational visits. Many of the historical events depicted with human and orc conflict against the moon elves have been dramatized to group them with the Nevésian Alliance raids, which might not always be historically accurate.

More Fun Facts

Key industries in the land of Luna include ship making, medical specialty in potion-making, farming and livestock (raising sheep and síoricompas), textiles, and brewing of wine, ale, and mead.

Luntera is very close with the desert country, Solátera, to the south-west, close with the Montusiloran Confederacy in the river valley to the west, and distant with their neighbor to the south-east, the Eastern Plains. However, despite their differences, all the countries of Ocúrey have been in combat with the Nevésian Alliance for close to five millennia.
